Dates: The program dates for Summer 2019 are June 17th – July
26th. RET Participants will commute to campus for participation.
The SDNI Research Education for Teachers (RET) Program is committed to enhancing the quality of pre-college STEM education in our region. The RET is looking to provide a research opportunity to four (4) high school or community college science teachers/professors interested in increasing STEM in their classrooms. Each participant will be matched with an appropriate SDNI professor-mentor for the entirety of the 6-week RET program (Summer 2018). Participants will receive a stipend in the amount of $4,500, upon successful completion of the programs time commitment and can also receive up to $1000 budget for classroom laboratory supplies. Preference will be given to teachers who work with large numbers of URM students and community college professors are encouraged to apply.
Housing: Not provided for RET participants
Travel Expenses: Not provided for RET participants.
Stipends: Participants will receive a $4,500 stipend + a $1000 supply budget.

HOW TO APPLY

All applicants must be United States citizens or U.S. permanent residents and be willing to commit to the entirety of the 6-week program.
The SDNI RET Summer Program application deadline is January 31st of the program year. We will continue to accept applications after that date until the positions are filled.
Applicants are required to submit the following for full consideration:
- A completed online Application Form
- A copy of your degree and/or teaching credential
- Letters of recommendation
Two (2) letters of recommendation are required from professors in your area of study. Recommendations are processed via the application portal. When you create an online application to the SDNI REU program, you will be required to enter recommenders information. Reminders are not sent to recommenders on our behalf. Therefore, please submit your application with enough time remaining for you to follow up with your recommenders and have your letters submitted on time.
